Lets talk about Overdrives

There are different flavors of overdrive, and each has it’s own sound.
Soft Clipping: These are your Tube Screamer / SD-1 Super Overdrive type pedals.
These are known for having a mid-hump around 700–750 Hz that does two things exceptionally well:
They cut through a mix, making your guitar stand out, and they roll off extreme lows and highs, tightening up your high gain amp and making hot sound less “flubby”.
Transparent Soft Clipping: These are your Bluesbreaker type pedals These are designed to add grit to your signal without tweaking the frequencies or adding midrange push.
Transparent / Hard Clipping Hybrid: The Klon Centaur is the best-known example of this style. Provides a clear boost with a heavy midrange peak (around 1 kHz) and a treble control that can adjust high frequency clarity.
Transistor-Based: The Blues Driver Style uses cascading transistor gain stages instead of the typical op-amps to sound like the natural overdrive created by a cranked amplifier.
